Sugar skeletons

After looking at mexican art I started to do a few sketches of the sugar skulls and my own versions. Heres a page from my sketchbook of the first few design ideas. These sketches aren't as detailed as the sugar skulls but I have to remember that we dont have long to do this animation and I dont want it to be too time consuming, but even without the detail I still quite like them.

Here's the skull I've chosen out of my sketches that I think looks best for what I'm thinking. Its a traditional shape and I added a sombrero to add to the mexican theme.

Heart broken mexican

After doing lots of brainstorming in my sketchbook ive decided that the three words to describe the song is going to be 'heart broke mexican'. As soon as i heard the music I thought it sounded mexican or spanish, and then i came to the conclusion that the song sounded quite sad and lonely so I thought of heart broken. These three words have helped me to start to think about what my story could be. As soon as I thought mexican I thought about the art work and a good example is mexican day of the dead, I've always liked this style of art especially because of the bright colours they use. And I particularly like the sugar skull illustrations which I think I'm going to work towards.
